Questions, answered
Do I need a Gemini API key?
Yes. Site Answers uses Google's Gemini API to write answers, with your own key. You can create one in Google AI Studio. Usage is billed by Google under your key, and the plugin includes limits that keep bots from sending questions to the AI.
Will it make things up or search the web?
Answers from the public web are off by default. When they are off, the assistant is told to answer only from your pages, notes, and files, and to say it doesn't know when they don't cover the question. With Pro, verified answers you save are checked first.
Can visitors see my API key?
No. The browser talks to your site, and your site talks to Gemini. The key never leaves your server.
How does the free trial work?
Every Pro plan includes a 7-day free trial. Checkout asks for a card, but you're not charged until the trial ends, and you'll get a reminder email 2 days before. Cancel any time before then and you won't be charged.
What happens if my Pro license ends?
Pro features switch off and the chat keeps working with the free features. Your email, schedule, and verified answer settings are kept for when Pro is active again.
Does it work with my theme or page builder?
Yes. The floating chat button works on any theme, and the shortcode works anywhere WordPress shortcodes do, including Divi, Elementor, and the block editor. Site Answers needs WordPress 6.0 or newer and PHP 8.0 or newer.
Can I translate the chat?
Yes. Site Answers is translation-ready, and WPML, Polylang, TranslatePress, and similar plugins can translate the text visitors see. On multisite, each site keeps its own settings and chat log.
Is there a free version?
Yes. The free version includes answers from your content, the knowledge store, the Questions page, two themes, and two floating buttons. It's coming soon to WordPress.org. Pro adds the features above and can be tried free for 7 days.
